What & Why

Our bodies are amazing! Just like a flower needs water to stand up tall, our bodies need water to work and play. When our body needs more water, it sends us little messages called 'thirsty signals.'Listening to these signals and drinking water helps us run faster, think better in class, and feel great all day long!

Example 1 — Dry Mouth

Imagine you are playing on the playground. You're running and laughing with your friends on a sunny day.You start to feel that your mouth is a little sticky.Your tongue feels fuzzy and dry.This is a thirsty signal! It's the most common one.What do you do? You stop playing for a minute, go to the water fountain, and take a nice, long drink. Ahh, much better!

Example 2 — Feeling Tired

You are in your classroom building a super tall tower with blocks. It's really fun, but all of a sudden, you start to feel sleepy.You might feel a little grumpy and not want to build anymore.This can be a tricky thirsty signal! Sometimes when our body needs water, it makes us feel tired.What do you do? You can ask your teacher, 'May I please get a drink of water?' A few sips can help wake up your brain and body!
