Grammar Rules & Patterns

The 'Es la una' Rule Use 'Es la una' for 1:00. Use 'Son las...' for 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, etc. The number one ('una') is singular, so we use the singular verb 'es'. All other hours are plural, so we use the plural verb 'son'.
