What & Why

A Support Team is a group of trusted adults you can talk to when you have questions, feel worried, or need help. These are people who care about you, listen to you, and want to keep you safe and healthy. It's important to have a Support Team because talking about our feelings and questions helps us understand the changes in our bodies and feel less alone. They can give you good advice and help you if you ever have a problem.

Example 1 — A Trusted Family Member

Let's say you're feeling a little confused about why you're suddenly getting so much taller than your friends. This might be a great time to talk to a trusted adult in your family, like a parent, grandparent, or older sibling.Choose the person: Think of a family member who is a good listener, like your Dad.Find a good time: Pick a time when your Dad isn't busy, maybe after dinner or on the weekend.Start the conversation: You can say something simple like, "Dad, can I ask you a question about growing up?"Share your question: You could say, "I've been growing really fast lately. Is that normal?"Talking to family can feel safe and comfortable because they know you best!

Example 2 — A School Helper

Your school has people whose job it is to help you!Choose the person: A school counselor or a trusted teacher is a great choice. Let's say you choose Ms. Davis, the school nurse.Find a good time: You can ask your teacher if you can visit the nurse's office, or you can go during recess.Start the conversation: You could say, "Ms. Davis, I have a question I was hoping you could help me with."Share your question: You can ask about anything that's on your mind. School helpers are trained to listen and give you private, helpful advice.
