Introduction & Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives Identify and say the seven colors of the rainbow in Spanish. Understand that colors are adjectives (adjetivos) that describe nouns. Correctly place color adjectives after the noun in a simple phrase. Change the ending of certain color adjectives to match feminine nouns (e.g., rojo -> roja). Recognize color adjectives that do not change for gender (e.g., verde, azul). Form simple sentences to describe the color of a familiar object, like a food item. Have you ever seen a beautiful rainbow after it rains? 🌈 Let's learn how to name all its amazing colors in Spanish! In this lesson, we will learn the Spanish words for the colors of the rainbow. Grammar Rules & Patterns

Rule 1: Adjective Placement Noun + Adjective In Spanish, the describing word (adjetivo) almost always comes AFTER the thing it is describing (the noun). Think 'car red' instead of 'red car'. Rule 2: Gender Agreement If the noun is feminine (uses 'la'), change the adjective's '-o' ending to an '-a'. Adjectives must match the noun they describe. For colors ending in '-o' like 'rojo' or 'amarillo', you must change the ending to '-a' if the noun is feminine. Colors that end in '-e' or a consonant (like 'verde' or 'azul') do not change.
