What & Why

Fair Play is all about how we act when we play games. It means a few simple things:Knowing and following the rules.Being honest, even when no one is watching.Respecting your teammates, your opponents, and the referees.Treating everyone the way you want to be treated. Why does it matter? When everyone plays fair, the game is more fun, everyone feels included, and we can all be proud of how we played, no matter the score.

Example 1 — Soccer Slip-Up

Imagine you're playing soccer. The ball comes flying towards you and you accidentally touch it with your hand. The referee didn't see it.Unfair Play: You could pretend it didn't happen and keep playing. This might help your team score, but it's not honest.Fair Play: The honest thing to do is tell the referee or the other team what happened. This shows respect for the rules and for the game. Even if it gives the other team a free kick, you're being a true sport!

Example 2 — The Finish Line Mix-Up

You're in a relay race at school. You and a runner from another team cross the finish line at almost the exact same time! The teacher says the other runner was just a tiny bit faster.Unfair Play: You could argue with the teacher, stomp your feet, and say, "No way, I won!" This can make others feel bad and ruin the fun.Fair Play: The best thing to do is take a deep breath, say "Good race!" to the other runner, and shake their hand. Accepting the result with a good attitude is a key part of being a good sport.
