What & Why
In every game, there's a winner and a loser. While winning is fun, focusing only on the score can make us forget what's truly important: trying our best, learning new skills, and being a good teammate. When we celebrate effort, we celebrate things like:Running your fastest, even if you don't come in first.Trying a new move you've been practicing.Helping a teammate who is struggling. Not giving up when the game gets tough. This way, everyone can feel like a winner because everyone can give their best effort!

Example 1 — The Soccer Scramble
Imagine Maya's soccer team is playing in the rain. The score is 2-1 and they are losing. The field is muddy and it's hard to run.Step 1: Maya sees her teammate, Leo, slip and fall but get right back up to chase the ball. The other team scores again. The game ends 3-1.Step 2: Instead of being sad about the score, the coach brings the team together. He says, "I want to celebrate Leo for not giving up after he fell. That's the kind of heart our team has!"Step 3: The whole team claps for Leo. Even though they lost, they leave the field feeling proud of their toughness and teamwork, not sad about the score.

Example 2 — The Relay Race Drop
During field day, the Blue Team is in the lead for the big relay race. It's Sam's turn to run the last leg.Step 1: As Sam gets the baton, it slips from his hand and falls to the ground. The Red Team passes him and wins the race.Step 2: Sam feels terrible and thinks he let everyone down. He expects his team to be mad.Step 3: Instead, his teammates run over to him. One says, "Don't worry about it! You were running so fast!" Another adds, "We're a team, win or lose. You did your best!" They all walk back together, focusing on the fun they had, not the dropped baton.
