The 'Son las...' Rule
Son las + [number from 2-12]
Use 'Son las' for every hour EXCEPT one o'clock. 'Son' is used because you are talking about multiple hours (two, three, four, etc.). 'Las' is used because the word 'horas' (hours) is feminine and plural.
The 'Es la una' Exception
Es la una
For one o'clock, you must ALWAYS use 'Es la una'. 'Es' is used because you are only talking about one hour. 'La' is used because 'hora' is feminine and singular.
