The 'Es' vs. 'Son' Rule
Use 'Es la una' for 1:00. Use 'Son las...' for all other hours (2:00-12:00).
Think of it like in English: 'It IS one hour' (singular) vs. 'They ARE two hours' (plural). Because 'dos' (two) is more than one, we use the plural form 'son'.

To say what time it is (for two o'clock and up), you always start with 'Son las' and then say the number of the hour. We use 'las' because the word 'hora' (hour) is feminine and plural.
