Grammar Rules & Patterns
The 'Veinti-' One-Word Rule
veinte + i + número = veinti(número)
For numbers 21 through 29, you take the word 'veinte' (20), change the 'e' to an 'i', and connect it directly to the next number to make one single word. For example, 'veinte' and 'cuatro' become 'veinticuatro'.
The Accent Mark Rule (Tildes)
Add an accent to the last vowel for 22, 23, and 26.
Because of Spanish pronunciation rules, the numbers veintidós, veintitrés, and veintiséis need an accent mark (una tilde) on the final vowel to keep the stress on the right syllable. Just remember 2, 3, and 6 are special!
The 'Treinta' Two-Word Rule (Preview)
