Grammar Rules & Patterns

Present Tense of -AR Verbs Drop the -AR and add a new ending: -o (yo), -as (tú), -a (él/ella/usted), -amos (nosotros), -an (ellos/ellas/ustedes). Use this rule to change an action word to show WHO is doing the action right now. For 'limpiar' (to clean), 'yo limpio' means 'I clean'. Adjective Agreement (Gender) Adjectives must match the gender of the noun they describe. If the noun is masculine (often ends in -o, like 'el piso'), the adjective ends in -o. If the noun is feminine (often ends in -a, like 'la mesa'), the adjective ends in -a. Use this rule when you describe something. You can't say 'la mesa sucio'; you must change it to 'la mesa sucia' because 'mesa' is feminine.
