Masculine & Feminine Nouns Masculine words often end in '-o' and use 'el'. Feminine words often end in '-a' and use 'la'. When talking about family members, you must match the word to the person. Use 'el' for boys/men and 'la' for girls/women. For example, 'el hermano' (the brother) and 'la hermana' (the sister). Adjective Agreement Adjectives must match the gender of the noun they describe.
