Grammar Rules & Patterns
Adjective Agreement (Gender)
Adjectives must match the gender (masculine/feminine) of the noun they describe. Masculine nouns often end in -o, and feminine nouns often end in -a.
If a clothing item is feminine (like 'la falda' - the skirt), the color must also end in -a. If it's masculine ('el sombrero' - the hat), the color ends in -o. Some colors, like 'azul' or 'verde', don't change for gender.
Adjective Agreement (Number)
Adjectives must also match the number (singular/plural) of the noun. Add an -s or -es to make an adjective plural.
If you are describing one shoe ('el zapato'), you say 'negro'. If you are describing two shoes ('los zapatos'), you must say 'negros'.
