Grammar Rules & Patterns
Adjective Agreement: Gender
Describing words (adjectives) must match the gender of the noun they describe.
In Spanish, nouns are either masculine (often ending in -o, like 'escritorio') or feminine (often ending in -a, like 'cama'). If a color or size word ends in -o, you must change it to -a to describe a feminine noun. For example, 'rojo' becomes 'roja' for 'cama'.
Using 'Yo tengo'
To say 'I have', use the phrase 'Yo tengo'.
This is the first-person form of the verb 'tener' (to have). Always use 'Yo tengo' when talking about the things you possess in your room. Follow it with the name of the object, like 'Yo tengo una lámpara'.
