What & Why

What is Intuitive Eating? It’s an approach to health and wellness that focuses on listening to your body's internal cues. Instead of following a diet plan, you learn to recognize and honor your hunger and fullness signals. It means rejecting the 'diet mentality' of restriction and guilt, and instead, making peace with all foods. What is Joyful Movement? It’s shifting the focus of physical activity from burning calories or changing your body shape to finding pleasure and enjoyment in moving. It could be anything from dancing in your room to hiking with friends or playing a sport you love. The goal is to feel good, not to punish yourself. Why does this matter?Constantly worrying about food and exercise is stressful and can harm your self-esteem. Example 1 — Listening to Hunger Cues

Imagine you're in your last class of the day and your stomach starts rumbling. You feel distracted and low on energy.Acknowledge the Signal: Instead of ignoring the feeling or thinking, 'It's not dinner time yet,' recognize it for what it is. Your body is communicating that it needs fuel.Assess Your Hunger: On a scale of 1 (starving) to 10 (stuffed), where are you? Maybe a 3 or 4. You're definitely hungry.Plan with Kindness: Think about what would be satisfying and provide energy. Instead of restricting, you decide, 'When I get home, I'll have a snack like an apple with peanut butter or some cheese and crackers.'Honor Your Body: Eat the snack without guilt. You've just successfully listened to and respected your body's needs.

Example 2 — Finding Joy in Movement

Your friends are all committed to a high-intensity workout program at the gym, but you've tried it and find it boring and draining.Reject the 'Shoulds': Let go of the idea that you 'should' do a certain type of exercise to be healthy. Health looks different for everyone.Explore Your Interests: What sounds fun to YOU? Make a list. Maybe you love music, being outdoors, or playing with your dog.Experiment without Pressure: Try something from your list. Go for a bike ride on a local trail, put on your favorite playlist and dance for 15 minutes, or try an online yoga video. There's no pass or fail.Focus on the Feeling: Pay attention to the benefits beyond calories. Did the walk clear your head? Did dancing make you smile? Did yoga help you feel less tense? That's the goal of joyful movement.
