What & Why

Kicking is when we use our feet to move a ball. We kick in games like soccer or just for fun in the yard! Learning to kick well helps us aim the ball where we want it to go and play safely with friends.

Example 1 — The Gentle Tap

This is for moving the ball a short distance, like when you're dribbling.Stand with the ball right in front of you.Swing your kicking leg back just a little bit.Gently tap the ball with the inside of your foot, like you're pushing it.Watch it roll forward slowly. Try to keep it close to you!

Example 2 — The Friendly Pass

This is how you pass the ball to a friend who is nearby.Look at your friend. This is your target!Place your other foot (the one not kicking) next to the ball. Point it towards your friend.Swing your kicking leg and tap the ball with the inside of your foot.Let your leg swing forward a little after you kick. This is called a 'follow-through'.
