Grammar Rules & Patterns
The 'One O'clock' Rule (Singular)
Es la una en punto.
Because 'una' (one) is a single hour, we use the singular form 'Es la'. This is the only time you will use 'Es la'.
The 'All Other Hours' Rule (Plural)
Son las + [number from 2-12] + en punto.
For any hour from two to twelve, we use the plural form 'Son las' because we are talking about more than one hour.
