Think of the FITT and Progression principles as the secret recipe for your personal fitness plan. They help you build a routine that is safe, effective, and fun!FITT (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type) is your starting recipe: It tells you what ingredients to use for your workouts.Progression is how you become a better chef over time: It shows you how to gradually add a little more spice (challenge) to your recipe so you keep improving without getting hurt or bored.Putting them together means you are in control of your fitness journey!

Example 1 — Maya's Cardio Goal

Maya wants to improve her cardio to run a 5k race in three months. Here’s how she uses FITT and Progression.Goal: Improve cardiovascular endurance.Weeks 1-4: The Starting Plan (FITT)Frequency: 3 times per week (e.g., Mon, Wed, Fri).Intensity: Moderate. She jogs at a pace where she can still talk a little.Time: 20 minutes per jog.Type: Jogging on a local track.Weeks 5-8: Applying ProgressionMaya's jogs are feeling easier. To progress, she changes one variable. She decides to increase her Time.New Time: 25 minutes per jog. He creates a bodyweight plan.Goal: Improve muscular strength.Weeks 1-4: The Starting Plan (FITT)Frequency: 2 times per week (e.g., Tue, Thu) to give muscles time to recover.Intensity: 2 sets of 10 push-ups, 15 squats, and a 30-second plank.Time: About 15 minutes.Type: Bodyweight strength exercises.Weeks 5-8: Applying ProgressionLeo can now complete his sets easily.
