What & Why

Your body is about 60% water! Think of water as the ultimate team player inside you. It has many important jobs:Temperature Control: When you get hot, you sweat. As sweat evaporates, it cools you down. That's your body's built-in air conditioner!Nutrient Delivery: Water helps carry energy (from food) and oxygen to your muscles and brain.Waste Removal: It helps flush out stuff your body doesn't need.Joint Cushion: Water keeps your joints, like your knees and elbows, lubricated so you can move smoothly. When you don't have enough water, it's called dehydration. It can make you feel tired, dizzy, and unable to perform your best.

Example 1 — Maya's Match Day

Maya has a big soccer game at 3 PM. She knows that showing up thirsty is a recipe for a bad game. Here’s her hydration plan:Morning: She starts her day with a big glass of water and makes sure to sip from her water bottle throughout her morning classes.Lunchtime: With her lunch, she drinks more water. She also eats an orange, which is full of water.Pre-Game (1-2 hours before): She drinks about 2 cups of water slowly so her body has time to absorb it.During the Game: She takes a few big gulps of water every 15-20 minutes during breaks and at halftime.Post-Game: She continues to drink water after the game to replace all the fluid she lost from sweating.By planning ahead, Maya stays energized and avoids cramps for the whole game!

Example 2 — Leo's Trail Trek

Leo and his family are going for a 90-minute hike on a warm Saturday. It's not a race, but he knows he'll be sweating. Here's how he prepares:Packing Up: The night before, Leo fills up a large, reusable water bottle and puts it in the fridge so it's cold and ready to go.On the Trail: He doesn't wait until he's super thirsty. He takes regular sips of water every 20 minutes or so, especially after climbing a steep part of the trail.Smart Snacking: He also brings a juicy apple and some cucumber slices as snacks. These foods have a high water content and help him stay hydrated.Leo feels great during the hike and has plenty of energy to enjoy the views because he kept his body fueled with water.
