What & Why

What are Invasion Games?Invasion games are team games where you try to score in your opponent's territory while defending your own. Think of games like soccer, basketball, or capture the flag! Why do Space and Defense Matter?Offense (Attacking): Finding open space helps you move the ball or object easily and get closer to scoring.Defense (Guarding): Protecting your space stops the other team from scoring on you.Learning to do both makes you a super valuable teammate!

Example 1 — Soccer Dribbling

Scenario: You have the soccer ball!Look Up: Instead of just looking at the ball, lift your head and scan the field. Where are the other players? Where is the empty grass?Find the Lane: See an open path, like a highway lane, between two defenders? That's your target!Move Smart: Dribble the ball into that open space. This makes it harder for the defenders to catch you.Pass or Shoot: Once you're in the open space, you have a better chance to pass to a teammate or take a shot at the goal.

Example 2 — Basketball Guarding

Scenario: The other team has the basketball!Find Your Player: Your coach told you to guard number 10. Find that player on the court.Stay Between: Your most important job is to stay between your player and the basket they want to score on. Imagine a string connecting you, them, and the basket.Ready Stance: Bend your knees and stay on the balls of your feet. Keep your arms out to the side to make yourself bigger. This is called a defensive stance.Watch and Move: Watch the player's chest, not the ball. Move your feet quickly to stay in front of them. You are a wall they can't get through!
