What & Why
What is Passing to a Spot?Passing to a spot (or space) means you pass the ball to where your teammate is going to be, not where they are right now. It's like leading them with the ball! Why is it important? It's faster: Your teammate doesn't have to stop to catch the ball. It's smarter: It makes it very hard for defenders to steal (intercept) the ball.It keeps the game moving: It helps your team move quickly towards the goal.

Example 1 — Soccer Lead Pass
Imagine you're playing soccer and your friend, Alex, is running down the side of the field.Look up: You see Alex running into an open green space.Aim ahead: Instead of kicking the ball right at Alex's feet, you aim for the space a few steps in front of them.Pass with purpose: You kick the ball with the right amount of power so it rolls right into Alex's path.Success! Alex can run onto the ball without slowing down and keep the attack going!

Example 2 — Basketball Give-and-Go
In basketball, you can pass to a spot to get around a defender. This is often called a 'give-and-go'.Give (The Pass): You have the ball and pass it to a teammate who is standing still.Go (The Move): As soon as you pass, you run towards an open space near the basket. The Return Pass: Your teammate sees you running and passes the ball back to you, but they aim for the open spot you are running to.Score! You catch the ball in stride and can easily make a layup.
