What & Why

Kickball is a game that's a lot like baseball, but instead of using a bat to hit a small hardball, you use your foot to kick a big, bouncy ball! It's played on a diamond with four bases. One team kicks and runs the bases, trying to score points (called 'runs'), while the other team plays in the field, trying to get the runners 'out'.Playing kickball is awesome because it helps you improve your kicking accuracy, running speed, and catching skills. Most importantly, it teaches us about teamwork and good sportsmanship, like cheering for everyone and playing fairly.

Example 1 — How to Kick for Success

Getting a good kick is the first step to a great play! Here's how:Watch the Pitcher: Keep your eyes on the pitcher as they roll the ball towards you.Step and Kick: Take a small step with your non-kicking foot, placing it beside the ball.Use Your Laces: Swing your kicking leg and kick the ball with the inside of your foot or your shoelaces, not your toes! Kicking with your toes can hurt and makes the ball harder to control.Follow Through: Let your leg swing forward after you kick the ball. This gives your kick more power.Run!: As soon as you kick, drop your foot and run as fast as you can to first base.

Your goal is to touch all the bases safely to score a run for your team. The Path: You must run from home plate to 1st base, then 2nd, then 3rd, and finally back to home plate. You have to touch each base in order. When to Run: Watch the ball! If you kick a long ball, you might be able to run to 2nd or even 3rd base. If it's a short kick, running safely to 1st base is a great play.Look for Signs: Your teammates or a coach might help you by yelling 'Go!' or 'Stay!'. Teamwork is key!Tagging Up: If you kick the ball in the air and a fielder catches it (a 'fly ball'), you are out. If you are already on a base and your teammate kicks a fly ball that gets caught, you must go back and touch your base before you can run to the next one. This is called...
