What is Volleying?Volleying is striking or pushing a ball upward, usually with your hands and fingertips. The goal is to keep the ball in the air without it touching the ground.Why Is It Important?Learning to volley helps improve your hand-eye coordination, which is how your eyes and hands work together. It's a key skill for sports like volleyball and a fun way to play with friends!

Example 1 — The Balloon Bop

Let's start with something light and slow!Find a little bit of open space and grab a balloon.Gently toss the balloon up in front of you.As it comes down, get underneath it.Use the soft pads of your fingertips to tap it straight back up.Keep your eyes on the balloon and see how many times you can tap it up before it touches the floor!

Example 2 — The Beach Ball Bonanza

Now let's try a slightly heavier object.Grab a lightweight beach ball or playground ball.Toss it up. Notice you need a little more 'oomph' to send it upward.Bend your knees to get low and position yourself under the ball.Bring your hands together above your forehead. Make a 'diamond' or 'window' shape with your thumbs and index fingers.As you make contact with the ball on your fingertips, push up with your legs. Feel the power come from your whole body!
