What & Why
Our bodies are amazing! But sometimes, tiny little things called germs can get inside and make us feel sick. These germs are so small we can't see them. When we cough or sneeze, germs can fly out of our mouth and nose in tiny droplets of water. If we don't cover them, they can travel through the air and get to our friends, making them sick too. Covering our coughs and sneezes is an important way to be kind and keep our classroom healthy!

Example 1 — The Superhero Shield
What if you feel a cough coming and you don't have a tissue? Use the Superhero Shield!Lift your arm like you're showing your muscle.Bend your arm and bring it towards your face.Tuck your nose and mouth into the inside of your elbow.Cough! The germs get trapped in your sleeve, not on your hands or in the air. This is the best way to cough if you don't have a tissue.

Example 2 — The Tissue Trap
A tissue is a perfect tool for trapping a sneeze! Here's how to do it:Grab a tissue quickly when you feel a sneeze tickle.Cover your nose AND mouth with the tissue.Sneeze right into the middle of it. Ah-choo!Throw the tissue straight into the trash can. Don't leave it on your desk!Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer. This gets rid of any germs that got on your hands.
