Grammar Rules & Patterns
Finding the Stem
Infinitivo - IR = Raíz
To start conjugating, first find the verb's stem. You do this by taking the -IR off the end of the infinitive.
Present Tense -IR Endings
yo: -o | tú: -es | él/ella/usted: -e | nosotros/as: -imos | vosotros/as: -ís | ellos/ellas/ustedes: -en
After you find the stem, add the correct ending from this list. The ending you choose must match the subject of your sentence.
The 'Nosotros' Rule for -IR Verbs
Nosotros + Raíz + -imos
A special thing to remember for -IR verbs is that the 'we' form (nosotros) ends in '-imos'. This is different from -AR verbs (-amos) and -ER verbs (-emos).
