Grammar Rules & Patterns

The -IR Verb Conjugation Pattern 1. Drop the -ir from the infinitive. 2. Add the new ending that matches the pronoun: yo (-o), tú (-es), él/ella/usted (-e), nosotros/nosotras (-imos), ellos/ellas/ustedes (-en). Use this two-step pattern for any regular -IR verb to say who is doing the action right now. The Special 'Nosotros' Rule The ending for 'nosotros' is -imos. The vowel 'i' in the ending matches the vowel in the infinitive '-ir'. This is an important difference from -AR verbs, which use '-amos'. For 'vivir', we say 'nosotros vivimos'. For 'hablar', we say 'nosotros hablamos'.
