Gender of Nouns: 'el' y 'la'
Nouns in Spanish are either masculine (use 'el') or feminine (use 'la').
You must learn the gender of each new food word. For example, it's 'el helado' (masculine) but 'la sopa' (feminine). The article 'el' or 'la' tells you the gender.
Adjective Agreement
Adjectives must match the gender of the noun they describe. Adjectives ending in '-o' change to '-a' for feminine nouns.
If a food is masculine, the adjective describing it ends in '-o'. If the food is feminine, the adjective ends in '-a'. For example: 'El helado es delicioso.' but 'La sopa es deliciosa.'
