Grammar Rules & Patterns

The 'Gusta' vs. 'Gustan' Rule Use 'gusta' for singular nouns. Use 'gustan' for plural nouns. Look at the food you are talking about. If it's just one thing (la manzana), use 'gusta'. If it's more than one thing (las manzanas), use 'gustan'. The word 'gustar' changes to match the food, not the person! The 'No' Goes First Rule To say you don't like something, always put 'No' at the very beginning of the sentence. The word 'No' is like a gatekeeper for the sentence.
