Saying Where You Go: 'Ir a + lugar' Subject + ir (conjugated) + a + el/la + place To say where you or someone else is going, use the verb 'ir' (to go) followed by 'a' (to) and the place. Remember to use 'el' for masculine places and 'la' for feminine places. For example: 'Yo voy a la escuela.' The Contraction 'al' a + el = al When the word 'a' (to) comes before the masculine article 'el' (the), they combine to form one word: 'al'. You never say 'a el'.
