Grammar Rules & Patterns

The Special Rule for One O'Clock Es la una Only for one o'clock, we use 'Es la' because one is singular (just one!). The Rule for All Other Hours Son las + [number] For hours 2, 3, 4, and all the way to 12, we use 'Son las' because it's plural (more than one!).
