Grammar Rules & Patterns

The 'dieci-' Rule (16-19) diez + y + número = diecinúmero For numbers 16 to 19, we squish 'diez y' (ten and) together to make 'dieci-'. So, 'diez y seis' becomes 'dieciséis'. The 'veinti-' Rule (21-29) veinte + y + número = veintinúmero For numbers 21 to 29, we squish 'veinte y' (twenty and) together to make 'veinti-'. So, 'veinte y uno' becomes 'veintiuno'. Using 'un' and 'una' Use 'un' for boy things and 'una' for girl things. The number 'uno' (one) changes! If you are counting one boy thing (like a libro 📖), say 'un'. If you are counting one girl thing (like a manzana 🍎), say 'una'.
