Sharing and Giving

The Hook

Imagine you have two cookies, and your friend has none. You give them one. How does that feel? That little warm feeling is what giving is all about. It’s not just about money. It’s about sharing what you have, even if it’s just a cookie.

The Real Talk

Giving is a way of sharing what you have to help others. It’s been a part of every community in history. People share to build friendships, help their neighbors, and make their corner of the world a little bit better.A great way to think about this is the three-jar system. When you get any money, like from an allowance or a gift, you can divide it into three jars:Spend Jar: For things you want to buy now.Save Jar: For bigger things you want to buy later.Give Jar: For helping others or supporting a cause you care about. The best part? Helping others actually helps you, too. Scientists have found that when you do something generous, your brain releases chemicals that make you feel happy. It’s often called a “helper’s high,” and it’s a real feeling.

The Story

Ananya, who is 9, noticed that the box of toys for indoor recess at school was looking empty. Some kids didn't have anything to play with on rainy days. She wanted to help, but she didn't have enough money in her piggy bank to buy new toys for the whole class. She felt stuck. So, she talked to her teacher, Ms. Devi. They came up with a plan to hold a school-wide toy drive. Ananya made posters, and soon, students were bringing in gently used games and toys they didn't play with anymore. The recess box was overflowing. Ananya realized that giving her time and a good idea was even more powerful than giving money.
