The Hook
Imagine someone put your favorite candy in front of you. They said you could eat it now, or wait 15 minutes and get two. What would you do? This isn't just about candy—it's about a superpower called saving. It's how we make choices with money every single day.

The Real Talk
When you get money, you have two main choices: spending (using it now) or saving (keeping it for later). Deciding which to do starts with understanding the difference between needs and wants.A need is something you must have to live, like food, a safe place to sleep, and basic clothes.A want is something you would like to have but don't need to survive, like a new video game or a fancy ice cream cone.In a famous experiment, kids who could wait for a second marshmallow often found it easier to reach big goals later in life. But waiting is a skill you can learn, not something you're born with. It's called delayed gratification.A great way to practice this is to 'pay your future self first.' This means every time you get money, you put a little bit into savings before you spend any on wants....

The Story
Marcus was so excited. He got 20 units of his local currency for his tenth birthday. He was saving for a new bike that cost 100 units, and he already had 60 in his jar at home. He was so close. On the way home from his party, he saw a brand new action figure in a store window. It cost exactly 20 units. His friends all crowded around, saying how cool it was. Marcus thought about how fun it would be to play with it right now. But then he pictured himself riding the new bike. He decided to walk past the store. When he got home, he put the 20 units in his bike jar. Seeing the jar almost full felt even better than a new toy would have.
