The Hook
Have you ever had a big homework assignment that felt like a monster sitting on your desk? The more you ignore it, the bigger and scarier it gets. This feeling has a name: procrastination. It's not about being lazy. It's about trying to avoid something that feels hard or boring, and everyone does it sometimes.

The Real Talk
Putting things off is called procrastination. It’s like a little monster that whispers, “Do it later.” But the longer you wait, the bigger and louder that monster gets. Soon, the worry about the task is much worse than the task itself. This isn't because you're lazy. It's because your brain is trying to avoid feelings you don't like, such as:Feeling bored by the task.Worrying you won't do a good job.Feeling confused about where to start. The good news is that you can shrink the monster. The trick is to just get started, even for a tiny bit. Did you know that once you start something, your brain usually wants to finish it? The hardest part is always the first step, and getting started is how you win.

The Story
Amara had a book report due on Friday. On Monday, she thought, "I have plenty of time." On Wednesday, she decided to do it tomorrow. By Thursday night, the monster was huge. She was crying because she was so far behind and didn't think she could finish. The next time she had a big project, her dad suggested a 5-minute deal. On the very first day, Amara agreed to work for just five minutes. But once she started, it wasn't so bad. She ended up working for 20 minutes. She finished the whole report by Wednesday and felt proud instead of panicked.
