The Hook

Do you ever feel like you are a character in a video game, running from one level to the next without a break? School, then homework, then sports practice, then dinner, then bed. If you are always feeling tired or rushed, it is not your fault. It just means your schedule might be too full.

The Real Talk

Think of your energy like a battery in a phone. School uses some charge. Playing with friends uses some. Homework uses even more. If you never plug in to recharge, your battery will run out. When that happens, everything feels harder.Overscheduled means you have too many things to do and not enough time for rest and play. It is a common problem. Here are some signs your battery is low:You feel tired all the time, even after sleeping. You get grumpy or upset more easily.Things you used to enjoy now feel like chores. The most important thing to know is that rest is productive. It is not lazy to take a break. When you sleep or have quiet time, your brain is busy organizing everything you learned that day. Getting enough rest actually helps you do better in school and sports.

The Story

Marcus is 10. He loves being busy. He is on the soccer team, in the after-school art club, and takes piano lessons. But lately, he has been so tired that he almost falls asleep in class. He keeps getting stomachaches, too. His mom noticed and asked him, "If you could only keep two activities besides school, what would you pick?" Marcus thought hard. He loved the running in soccer and the creativity of art club. Piano felt more like a chore. He decided to pause piano lessons for a while. Suddenly, he had time to just play outside after school. The stomachaches went away, and he had more energy for the things he truly loved. He realized that doing fewer things well felt way better than doing everything while feeling tired.
