Key Rules & Conventions

The No '-ed' Rule Irregular verbs do not follow the pattern of adding '-ed' for the past tense. When you see a verb from our special group (like 'go' or 'see'), remember that it will change its spelling completely for the past tense, instead of just adding '-ed'. The Memory Rule Each irregular verb has a unique past tense form that must be memorized. Think of them like sight words. We have to practice them so we know them by heart. For Group 1, we will memorize five special pairs. Group 1 Pairs go -> went | see -> saw | eat -> ate | take -> took | give -> gave This is our list for today. When you want to talk about the past using one of these action words, you must use its special partner word.
