Key Rules & Conventions
The No '-ed' Rule
Irregular verbs do not add '-ed' to form the past tense.
Instead of adding '-ed' like you do for regular verbs (like walk -> walked), irregular verbs change their spelling in a unique way. You have to memorize these special forms.
The '-ought' and '-aught' Pattern
Many verbs in this set change their ending to '-ought' or '-aught' in the past tense.
Look for this pattern! Bring -> Brought. Think -> Thought. Buy -> Bought. Fight -> Fought. The verb 'catch' is the odd one out in this group, changing to 'caught'.
