What & Why
A great teammate is someone who makes the people around them better. It's not always the person who scores the most points, but the one who supports, communicates, and works hard for the group. Why does it matter? Because a team full of great teammates has trust. They can handle tough situations, learn from losses, and celebrate wins together. This creates a positive environment where everyone can improve and have fun.

Example 1 — Maya the Encourager
Imagine this: Your basketball team is down by one point with 10 seconds left. Your teammate, Sam, takes the final shot and misses. The buzzer sounds, and you lose. What not to do: Don't throw your hands up in frustration, glare at Sam, or complain about the missed shot. This makes Sam feel terrible and breaks team spirit. What Maya does: Maya immediately walks over to Sam. She puts a hand on his shoulder and says, "Hey, that was a good shot. We were only in a position to win because of your great defense earlier. We'll get them next time."The Result: Sam still feels disappointed, but he also feels supported by his teammate. The team sees Maya's leadership and learns that they stick together, win or lose.

Example 2 — Leo the Communicator
During a soccer game, the other team is moving the ball quickly and your team's defense is getting confused. Players are running out of position. What not to do: Don't just yell "Someone get the ball!" or blame a specific player for being in the wrong spot. This kind of communication is unclear and negative. What Leo does: Leo is a defender. He sees the problem and uses clear, positive talk. He calls out, "I've got number 10! Sarah, watch the pass to the wing!" He makes eye contact and uses hand signals. The Result: The defense gets organized. Because Leo's communication was specific and helpful, not blaming, his teammates respond quickly. They stop the other team from scoring.
