What & Why

On any team, from sports to school projects, everyone has a role. A role is your specific job or task that you are responsible for doing to help the group succeed. When everyone knows their role and does their best, the team works smoothly! It prevents confusion and makes sure all the important jobs get done. Every single role is valuable, no matter how big or small it seems.

Example 1 — Soccer Team

Imagine a soccer team. Not everyone can score goals all the time! The team needs different players in different roles to work together:Forwards: Their main job is to be near the other team's goal and try to score.Defenders: Their main job is to stay near their own goal and stop the other team from scoring.Goalie: The last line of defense, who uses their hands to stop the ball from going into the net.If the defenders decided to run up and try to score goals instead of defending, the other team would have an easy shot at the goal! Everyone must play their part for the team to succeed.

Example 2 — Group Science Project

Teamwork isn't just for sports! Think about doing a group project on volcanoes. To get an A+, the group might decide on these roles:Researcher: Reads books and websites to find cool facts about volcanoes.Writer: Takes the facts from the researcher and writes the report.Artist: Draws the diagrams and makes the poster look amazing.Presenter: Practices speaking and presents the project to the class. If the artist decided to write the report instead of drawing, the poster might be empty and the writer might get confused. Doing your specific job helps the whole group.
