Forming Formal (Usted/Ustedes) Commands
1. Take the 'yo' form of the present tense verb. 2. Drop the '-o'. 3. Add the opposite ending: '-e' for -AR verbs, '-a' for -ER/-IR verbs. For plural (Ustedes), add an '-n'.
This is the standard formula for creating respectful commands. For example, with 'hablar' (yo hablo), drop '-o' -> 'habl-', add '-e' -> 'hable'. With 'comer' (yo como), drop '-o' -> 'com-', add '-a' -> 'coma'.
Irregular Formal Commands
Some common verbs have irregular command forms that must be memorized: Ir -> Vaya(n), Ser -> Sea(n), Saber -> Sepa(n), Dar -> Dé/Den, Estar -> Esté(n).
