The Irregular Stem Change Decir -> dij- | Traer -> traj- | Poner -> pus- For these verbs in the preterite, you must first change the entire beginning of the verb to its new, special stem before adding any endings. You do not use the normal stems (dec-, tra-, pon-). Special Irregular Endings Endings: -e, -iste, -o, -imos, -isteis, -eron/-eron After changing the stem, you add a special set of endings. Notice that the 'yo' form ends in '-e' (not '-í' or '-é') and the 'él/ella/usted' form ends in '-o' (not '-ió' or '-ó'). These endings have NO accent marks.
