Grammar Rules & Patterns
Adjective Agreement (Gender)
Feminine Noun (la) + Adjective ending in -a. Masculine Noun (el) + Adjective ending in -o.
In Spanish, nouns are either masculine or feminine. The adjective you use to describe the noun must match its gender. If a noun uses 'la', its describing word often ends in '-a'. If a noun uses 'el', its describing word often ends in '-o'.
Using 'Es' vs. 'Hay'
Use 'es' to describe what something IS. Use 'hay' to say THERE IS / THERE ARE.
Use 'es' (from the verb 'ser') to talk about the characteristics of something, like its color or size. Use 'hay' to say that something exists in a place.
