The 'Nieva' Rule
Nevar is an 'impersonal' verb. It is almost always used in one form: nieva.
You don't say 'I snow' or 'you snow'. In Spanish, you just say 'nieva' to mean 'it is snowing'. It's a special weather verb that works on its own.
Noun vs. Verb: Nieve vs. Nieva
'La nieve' is the thing. 'Nieva' is the action.
Use 'la nieve' when you are talking about the snow on the ground. Use 'nieva' when you are talking about the action of snow falling from the sky.
Describing Cold Weather
Hace + frío
To say 'It's cold' in Spanish, we use the special phrase 'Hace frío'. We don't say 'Es frío' for the weather.
