The Placement Rule Direct Object Pronoun + Conjugated Verb In Spanish, the direct object pronoun (like 'me', 'lo', 'la') almost always goes right BEFORE the main action word (the verb). The Matching Rule lo = masculine noun (el) | la = feminine noun (la) You must choose the pronoun that matches the gender of the noun it is replacing. If the noun uses 'el' (like 'el libro'), use 'lo'. If the noun uses 'la' (like 'la pelota'), use 'la'.
