Grammar Rules & Patterns
The 'Hace + Weather' Formula
Hace + [type of weather]
In Spanish, we use the verb 'hacer' (in the form 'hace') to talk about many types of weather. 'Calor' (heat) is one of them. This is a special rule that is different from English.
Making it a Question
¿ + Hace + calor + ?
To ask if it's hot, you simply put question marks around the phrase and raise the pitch of your voice at the end. The words stay in the same order.
Adding Emphasis with 'Mucho'
Hace + mucho + calor
To say it's 'very hot', place the word 'mucho' between 'hace' and 'calor'. 'Mucho' does not change; it is always 'mucho' in this phrase.
