Grammar Rules & Patterns

Finding the Verb Stem Infinitivo - ER = Raíz To find the stem of any regular -ER verb, you just take off the last two letters, '-er'. What's left is the stem, which is the base you will add new endings to. Present Tense -ER Endings Yo: -o | Tú: -es | Él/Ella/Usted: -e | Nosotros: -emos | Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes: -en These are the new endings you must add to the verb's stem. Each ending matches a different subject, so you always know who is doing the action. The Conjugation Formula Raíz + Terminación = Verbo Conjugado To conjugate an -ER verb, first find the stem. Then, find the subject to know which ending to use. Finally, put the stem and the new ending together to make the correct verb form.
