Grammar Rules & Patterns

Using 'La' for Girl Words Words ending in '-a' often use 'la'. Think of 'la' as a girl word. 'La boca', 'la nariz', and 'la oreja' all end with the 'ah' sound, so they use 'la'. Using 'El' for Boy Words Words that don't end in '-a' might use 'el'. Think of 'el' as a boy word. 'El pelo' is a good example. It does not end in 'a'. Adding '-s' for More Than One If you have more than one, add an 's' sound at the end. You have one nose ('la nariz'), but you have two eyes ('los ojos') and two ears ('las orejas'). The 's' tells us there's more than one!
