Adding Monetary Amounts
To add monetary amounts, align the decimal points vertically. Add the numbers column by column, starting from the rightmost digit. Place the decimal point in the sum directly below the aligned decimal points. $\$A.BC + \$D.EF = \$(A+D).(BC+EF)$
Use this rule when combining costs, finding a total amount spent, or calculating combined earnings. Ensure cents are added to cents and dollars to dollars.
Subtracting Monetary Amounts
To subtract monetary amounts, align the decimal points vertically. Subtract the numbers column by column, starting from the rightmost digit, borrowing from the left when necessary.
