Tens PlaceThe place for groups of ten. It's to the left of the ones place. ⬅️In the number 45, the 4 is in the tens place. It means 4 tens.
Place ValueWhere a digit is in a number tells you how much it is worth.In 62, the 6 is worth 60 and the 2 is worth 2.
Regrouping (or Carrying)When you have 10 or more in the ones place, you make a new group of ten.If you have 14 ones, you regroup it as 1 ten and 4 ones. 📦

Always line up your numbers. Ones go under ones. Tens go under tens.
The Regrouping Rule
If \ O_1 + O_2 \ge 10, then \text{carry the ten!}
If the ones add up to 10 or more, you must regroup. The new ten moves to the top of the tens place.
