The Story

Wei was 10 when Amara joined his class. She wore different clothes than the other kids and spoke with an accent. At lunch, some kids would point at the food she brought from home. Wei didn't join in, but he didn't say anything either. He just stayed with his own friends. One day, the teacher paired Wei and Amara for a science project. He was nervous at first. But he soon discovered Amara was funny and had lived in another country. She told him amazing stories and even taught him a few words in another language. The next day, Wei asked if he could try some of her lunch. It was delicious. He realized that not being mean was not enough; making a new friend was much better.
