The Hook
Have you ever waved to someone who lives on your street? Or maybe you only know them by their dog's name. It might seem small, but knowing your neighbors is a secret superpower. The Story
Carlos, who was 10, often saw his neighbor, Mrs. Kim, carrying her groceries from her car. One day, a bag looked extra heavy, and she was moving very slowly. Carlos ran over and asked, "Can I help you with that?" He carried the bag to her door. Mrs. Kim was so thankful. After that, she always had a big smile and a wave for him. A few weeks later, Carlos got home from school and realized he forgot his key. He was locked out. Just as he started to worry, Mrs. Kim saw him from her window. She invited him to wait safely in her living room with a snack until his mom got home. Carlos realized that helping a neighbor meant they would probably help you back someday.
